Shibori is the Japanese term for a variety of ways to embellish textiles by shaping and securing it before dying. Rather than treating the cloth as a two-dimensional surface, with shibori it is given a three-dimensional form by folding, stitching or twisting. This cloth is then secured and dyed. In this technique the artisan works in concert with the materials, and an element of the unexpected is always present. Chance and accident give life to the process and these designs clearly reflect the artisan’s touch. This characteristic makes for highly individual results. Anna Lisa creates patterns using this unique process that are then used in a variety of products from garments to paper goods. She also uses her individually dyed pieces in a collage manner to create more illustrative work and fine art pieces. To learn more please contact the artist at
