Liquid forms, crisp patterns, balance, symmetry; these qualities drive my aesthetic and attract me to the world of glass-making. The years studying philosophy and this cultural moment inform my vision in art-making. The ethereal “artistic vision” meets the physical world in unique circumstances when art-making happens in the “hot shop.” Glass work is hands-on--a very physical, sometimes grueling, hands-on--and the tactility of the process is preserved in the final piece. The art object is in three dimensions and begs to be touched: cool smooth contours, mottled bumps, pebbled surfaces. The “art” experience of glass springs first and most prominently from the aesthetic response: beauty in form, shape, color, pattern, texture. |
